Cyclist killed in collision on Upper Wentworth near the Linc
A cyclist has died after being struck by a minivan early Tuesday morning.
Emergency services were called to Upper Wentworth Street near the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway bridge just before 5:30 a.m. July 5, said Hamilton police Const. Indy Bharaj. The caller - a passenger in a 2014 Honda Odyssey - told police that they were just in a collision involving a cyclist, Bharaj said.
When police and paramedics arrived on scene they found the cyclist in the middle of the road without vital signs, Bharaj said. Life-saving measures were attempted on scene, before he was transported to hospital.
He has since succumbed to his injuries.
Police are working to confirm his identity, Bharaj said.
Photos from the scene show a grey Dodge Caravan with a crumpled hood and shattered windshield surrounded by police tape.
North and southbound traffic on Upper Wentworth, above the Linc, remains closed.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the collision reconstruction unit.
