Chargers' Bosa: Football is 'my only priority' this year
Los Angeles Chargers pass-rusher Joey Bosa isn't going to let anything distract him ahead of his seventh NFL campaign.
The four-time Pro Bowl defender explained his mindset toward preparing for the regular season after previously attempting to fill his offseasons with distractive activities.
"Honestly, I've kind of come to the conclusion that I don't really care (about other hobbies), he said on the latest episode of "The Drue Tranquill Show." "Football is my No. 1 and pretty much my only priority. I don't need to fill my time with all these sorts of (other) things."
"I made a decision this year that everything else, other than how my body feels ... takes a back seat," he added.
The 26-year-old opened up about his mental health, revealing he has been taking an antidepressant to help deal with anxiety stemming from multiple injuries sustained throughout his career. Such injuries include concussions and a neck ailment.
Bosa believes picking up other hobbies would have a negative impact on his mental health. Instead, he prefers meditation and relaxation in between workouts.
The Chargers signed the Ohio State alum to a five-year, $135-million extension in 2020. He then enjoyed a productive 2021 campaign, amassing 51 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and seven forced fumbles, which earned him his fourth Pro Bowl nod.
Despite his success through six seasons, Bosa refuses to remain complacent.
"For me, it's never enough because I know once I get to that level there's more to learn, more to improve on," he said.
The Chargers are eager to pair Bosa alongside former All-Pro Khalil Mack. The club is excited about the potential of its defensive unit next season after acquiring J.C. Jackson and Kyle Van Noy during the offseason.
