Hamilton police investigating homicide after man found dead in tent in city’s east end
Hamilton police are investigating the city's second homicide of the year after a man was found dead Monday.
In a press release, police said that sometime on Monday officers received information regarding a suspicious death in the city's east end.
Officers later located the body of a man in a tent near the railroad tracks in the area of Lottridge Street and Landsdowne Avenue.
Monday afternoon, yellow police tape was strung around a grassy area beside the railway tracks crossing Lottridge Street in the industrial area.
Two forensics vans were parked among the police vehicles as officers walked the tracks and grassy fringes that line the CN tracks. The canine unit was also on scene, searching the area.
The crime scene is just north of the former Dominion Glass site, which the city plans to turn into a park. Homeless people have lived on the brownfield on and off in recent years. They have also set up tents along the tracks in the area.
Police said investigators with the homicide unit are working to identify the victim and notify next of kin. No further details were provided about the victim.
A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the homicide, police said. His identity has not been released.
Police said there are no outstanding suspects.
Anyone who may have been in the area over the weekend or has information related to the investigation is asked to contact police at 905-546-4863.
Shane Grenier was city's first homicide victim of the year.
The 39 year-old was killed March 6 after he was shot in the head and later dumped out of a vehicle in the central part of the city. In June, police charged two 21-year-old men from Hamilton, Owen Nathaniel Silverthorne and Janeil Gordon, with second-degree murder.
