A former television news journalist has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for culpable driving, after causing the death of his friend in a car crash while drunk and driving at almost double the speed limit.
Trent Evans, 45, wiped back tears as he was handed a sentence of seven years and 10 months in Melbourne's county court on Thursday. He will be eligible to apply for parole after serving five years and two months.
