Commanders' Young set to miss Week 1 amid recovery from ACL tear
Washington Commanders star pass-rusher Chase Young won't be on the field for the Week 1 opener, head coach Ron Rivera said Friday, according to ESPN's John Keim.
Rivera added that he can't determine when Young will return from the ACL tear that ended his 2021 campaign after nine games.
"It just depends on where he is. I can't tell you," Rivera said, per Keim. "The doctor is the only one that can tell you.
He continued: "I can't give you a number. I don't want to put pressure on the young man to try to hit a number that I can't give you."
The team placed Young on the PUP list when players reported for training camp earlier this week, though he can be activated anytime. The 2020 second overall pick said last month that his ACL rehab was "going as planned."
Young was named Defensive Rookie of the Year after recording 7.5 sacks and four forced fumbles in 2020. He put up 1.5 sacks last season prior to his injury.
