The body of a missing boater was found in the Grand River late Friday afternoon.

Haldimand County OPP announced in an email that searchers had found the body of Cody Thomson, 25, of Hamilton.

Thomson was reported missing on Thursday around 7:20 p.m. after he was seen falling off his Seadoo into the river near Highway 54 and Onondaga Townline Road.

The Seadoo was later recovered.

Police say Thomson was not wearing a life-jacket.

Numerous police services took part in the search, including the OPP's underwater search and rescue team, a police helicopter and the Haldimand marine unit.

Const. Mary Gagliardi said Victim Services was providing support to Thomson's relatives.

In a post to Twitter Saturday afternoon, the Hamilton Police marine unit said officers had already performed multiple rescues" involving floaties and paddleboards pushed out to sea by offshore winds.

Please check weather and wind conditions before going on or in the water and always wear a life-jacket," police said.
