Search underway for missing man in Lake Ontario near St. Catharines
Police said they have recovered the body of a man reported missing Sunday after falling off a tube in Lake Ontario.
At about 12:05 a.m. officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service Marine/Under Water Search and Recovery Unit located were taking part in dive operations and recovered the body of a deceased man not far from where he was last seen.
Detectives and the coroner were on site and a postmortem has been ordered. It is not being treated as suspicious.
The deceased has been identified as a 37-year-old man from Mississauga.
Police said emergency services were contacted about the missing male at about 7:40 p.m. Sunday. Officers attended the scene in Port Dalhousie and the initial investigation determined a boat pulling a tube overturned, and the male tube rider went into the water and did not resurface.
St. Catharines Fire Services and the Canadian Coast Guard were on scene.
