Cowboys sign Barr to 1-year contract
The Dallas Cowboys signed former Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr to a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Dallas didn't disclose the deal's financial terms, but Barr received a base salary of $2 million and an additional $1 million in incentives, reports Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.
The Cowboys indicated they were looking to add some experience to their linebacker group in the offseason by chasing Bobby Wagner, who ultimately signed with the Los Angeles Rams.
Barr spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Vikings after they drafted him ninth overall in 2014. He was a key cog in Minnesota's consistently strong defense over that time, earning four straight Pro Bowl appearances from 2015-18.
The veteran boasts career marks of 495 total tackles, 17.5 sacks, and eight forced fumbles.
Barr will reunite with former Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards, who's now a defensive assistant in Dallas.
Reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year Micah Parsons, veteran Leighton Vander Esch, and second-year pro Jabril Cox lead the NFC East club's linebacker unit.
However, Dallas needed to reinforce the position with Vander Esch's long injury history and Cox working back from an ACL tear. Barr's addition should also allow Parsons to continue to split time as a pass-rusher.
