Labor's plan to abolish the cashless debit card is set to sail through the Senate when parliament resumes next month, but the Greens and Jacqui Lambie Network will use an inquiry to probe potential unintended consequences of the bill's passage.

Nearly all the crossbench has indicated support for the government's election commitment, even while flagging concerns about the time available for participants to transition off the card and support for affected communities.
