It's another hot weekend around Hamilton.

Environment Canada is calling for even more heat, with temperatures holding just above 30 C.

Here are 10 hot summer things to do this weekend.

Authors in park

Meet, greet, share books and read. That's what Hamilton's second annual Authors in the Park festival is all about. Meet the authors on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. in Gore Park. This year features readings and presentations throughout the afternoon with an opportunity to take a free Hamilton IQ Test. Everyone welcome. Westdale Live

Live music on patios in Westdale Village from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday until October. Artists this weekend feature Woodpile on Friday, Bill Craig on Saturday and Alyssa Dupuis on Sunday. westdalevillage.ca

Live theatre

Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story" is running at Hamilton's Theatre Aquarius until Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m., with matinees added on Saturday and Sunday. theatreaquarius.org

Curtain Call Performing Arts Company presents Heathers: The Musical" at Hamilton Theatre Inc., 140 MacNab St. N. Show times are Thursday to Saturday, 7:30 p.m., and Saturday at 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $32 for adults. Walking tours

Join Bill King Sunday for a free 90-minute walking tour of downtown Hamilton. This weekend, meet some of the royal visitors who called on Hamilton over the years. Meet at King and John streets at 10 a.m.

Hamilton's Stories in the Stones, a free two-hour walking tour at Hamilton Cemetery, 777 York Blvd., runs most Saturdays, rain or shine. Join Robin McKee at 11 a.m. at the gatehouse for this week's Civil War Tour. hamiltonhistory.ca.

Where is Theodore Too?

Hamilton's famous tugboat is in Port Dover this weekend, docked along Harbour Street until Saturday. theodoretugboat.ca

Haida

HMCS Haida National Historic Site, 658 Catharine St. N., is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until September.

Battle re-enactment

Old Fort Erie's battle re-enactment, the 37th annual Siege of Fort Erie, is this weekend. Hundreds of re-enactors recreate an authentic military encampment and portray how the site became known as Canada's bloodiest battlefield. Three live battle re-enactments are set to take place on Saturday and Sunday along with activities for all ages. Visitors can browse the wares of merchants and sutlers dressed in period costume, as they carry on business as they did in the 1800s. Battle re-enactments and camp areas are free to the public. Admission to Old Fort Erie and the Saturday Night Lantern Tour is available, as a separate fee. Registration is not required, and free parking is available on-site. Sweet corn

Nothing screams summer louder than corn on the cob from a local farm. Here are a few farms where you can get it. On average, a dozen corn are selling for $10.

  • Snyders, 1863 Haldimand Rd. 9, Caledonia, is picked fresh daily. Hours are Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., snyderscorn.ca.

  • Or try your neighbourhood farmer's market; Locke Street, 260 Locke St. S., open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Hamilton Farmers' Market downtown open Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Ottawa Street Market open Saturdays 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Binbrook market, 2600 Regional Rd. 56, Bldg 3., open Saturdays 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Chasing butterflies

It's midsummer and there's no better time to take in a Butterfly and Nature Identification walk and tour. Free public workshops are held each Saturday until Aug. 27 at Hamilton's Urquhart Butterfly Garden. The hour-long walks start at 10 a.m. Saturday's tour is hosted by naturalist Matt Mills. The butterfly garden is located in Centennial Park at Cootes Drive and East Street in Dundas. Free parking is available at 128 King St. E. Mills is an experienced gardener and will be bringing a selection of organically grown native plants that can be purchased. Be sure to visit the Dundas Valley School of Art Gallery through the summer. Corine van Hoeve's latest gallery exhibition Split Level" is on now until Aug. 13. Gallery hours are Monday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and until 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The gallery is closed on weekends. dvsa.ca
