Woman dead after being hit by train in Mississauga in same area where 4-year-old fatally struck in July
A woman is dead after being struck by a train in Mississauga early Friday morning.
Peel Regional Police received a call that a pedestrian had been struck by a Canadian Pacific (CP) Railway freight train just after 6 a.m. The collision occurred near the intersection of Dundas Street East and Cawthra Road.
A spokesperson for Peel police confirmed that the collision occurred in the same area as the GO train collision in July, in which a four-year-old girl was struck and killed. Following that collision, people reported new sections of fence had been installed to prevent use of the train tracks as a shortcut to the intersection.
A representative from Metrolinx said the collision occurred in the same area" as the collision involving the four-year-old, but was not in the exact same location.
Emmanuel Nwabuoku, the father of Mitchell, the little girl who was killed by the GO train, told the Star about an opening in the fenced barrier that was supposed to block public access to the tracks, near a park at the Lolita Gardens-area apartment complex where his brother lived. It's how his youngest child and her siblings were able to access the tracks.
The state of the fence where this morning's collision occurred is unknown. The Metrolinx spokesperson added there is currently no information regarding whether or not this incident was intentional."
This is a developing story.
