Report: Wilson has chance to play Week 1 after knee surgery

New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson's arthroscopic knee surgery was a success, a source told ESPN's Rich Cimini.

The 23-year-old has a chance to play in Week 1, but the Jets won't play him until he's 100% healthy, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Wilson was initially given a two-to-four-week timeline after suffering a torn meniscus and a bone bruise in New York's preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. But he could have been out longer if his meniscus had required a full repair rather than trimming during Tuesday's procedure.

Jets backup Joe Flacco is set to start against his former team on Sept. 11 if Wilson isn't ready for New York's regular-season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

Wilson is looking to bounce back from an underwhelming rookie campaign that saw him throw for 2,334 yards and nine touchdowns against 11 interceptions. The 2021 No. 2 pick missed four games because of a sprained PCL in the same knee on which he recently underwent surgery.
