Seattle Seahawks rookie running back Kenneth Walker III missed practice Tuesday due to a "hernia issue," head coach Pete Carroll said, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson.

Carroll is hopeful Walker will be available to play in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 12.

"We've just got to make sure that he's OK by the opener is what we're shooting for," the coach said.

Walker registered six touches for 30 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Seattle drafted the Michigan State product in the second round this year as the second running back off the board. The 21-year-old is expected to be an important part of the team's offense while sharing snaps with Rashaad Penny, who enters the season as the No. 1 back after rushing for 671 yards and six touchdowns in the final five games of last season.

The Seahawks, who lost Chris Carson to retirement this offseason, also roster running backs Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas, among others.
