'We were frozen with shock!': Gas run leads to $54K lottery win for Ancaster man
While high gas prices were making headlines earlier this year, an Ancaster man's recent visit to a local Esso station paid off big.
Job Ravolahy stopped at the Garner Road Esso to fill up his wife's car and decided to pick up a ticket for the July 16 Lotto 649 draw. He ended up winning a second prize worth $54,947.90, plus $5 on his Encore selection, for a total winnings of $54,952.90.
The 41-year-old who works in construction has been a regular lottery player since 2019.
In an Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation news release, Ravolahy said he checked his ticket the next morning and saw the 'Big Winner' screen. At the time, he thought he had won $5,000.
"I showed my wife and that's when we realized the win was $54,000. We were frozen with shock! My wife was so happy," Ravolahy said in the release.
Ravolahy plans to put the money toward buying a home.
"I never imagined this would happen," he added. I know someone has to win, and I'm glad it was me."
