Short bus-only lane on Main Street to improve safety
by The Hamilton Spectator from on (#62P24)
The city has made room for a short bus-only lane on Main Street and created a priority transit signal to improve safety.
The signal allows buses to drive through the intersection at Main and MacNab Street ahead of other traffic.
Starting Friday, drivers will recognize the signal by its white vertical bar on a black background, the city said in a news release.
The new south-side lane, which is meant to allow buses to safely pull over to pick up passengers, covers an 85-metre stretch from city hall to the MacNab terminal.
A new right-turn lane has been added beside the bus-only lane. Right turns are only allowed when the lights turn green.
