The Dallas Stars have signed restricted free-agent goaltender Jake Oettinger to a three-year contract worth $4 million per season, the team announced Thursday.

"Jake's performance spoke for itself last season," said general manager Jim Nill. "He has elite physical ability and presence in the net, while also exhibiting phenomenal mental strength in high-pressure situations. Jake's poise and character off the ice have made him a leader in our locker room.

"He has shown that he has the skill, work ethic, and poise to excel at the NHL level. He was a key part of the team's success last season, and we're excited to see him continue to grow here in Dallas."

Oettinger emerged as Dallas' No. 1 goalie last campaign, posting a 30-15-1 record with a .914 save percentage and 9.8 goals saved above average. The 23-year-old nearly carried the Stars to an improbable first-round win over the Calgary Flames, registering a .954 clip in the seven-game loss.

Dallas drafted Oettinger 26th overall in 2017. He made his NHL debut in the 2020 Western Conference Final and became a part of the Stars' rotation in the crease during the shortened 2021 campaign.

Jason Robertson is the final Dallas player in need of a contract with Oettinger now taken care of. The dynamic winger finished second on the Stars in scoring last season with 79 points in 74 games.

Dallas has approximately $6 million in cap space, according to CapFriendly.
