Here’s what’s open and closed on Labour Day in Hamilton
Rejoice for the Labour Day long weekend is upon us!
Here's what's open and closed on the statutory holiday in Hamilton and Burlington.
Hamilton
Grocery stores, malls, library branches, civic museums and all city administrative offices will be closed.
LCBO stores will be closed, but select Beer Store locations will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday.
The HSR will be operating on a Sunday schedule. Fares have gone up five cents to $3.25 as of Sept. 1, for anyone paying cash. DARTS will be operating on holiday service hours and GO Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule.
Waste collection will be picked up one day later than regularly scheduled. Community recycling centres and transfer stations will be closed.
Municipal spray pads and outdoor pools will be open, as will parks and conservation areas. Indoor pools and recreation facilities will be closed.
The Dundas Driving Park wading pool will be closed on Sunday, but is reopening Monday.
For those looking for entertainment, movie theatres and municipal golf courses will be open.
Burlington
Animal services, Service Burlington, Halton court services and city administration offices will be closed in Burlington on Labour Day.
Burlington Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule. The downtown terminal and specialized dispatch will be closed. For schedules, click here.
Nelson Outdoor Pool and Splash Park at 4235 New St., and LaSalle Wading Pool at 50 North Shore Blvd. E., are open for swimming on Labour Day, weather dependent. If you prefer to swim indoors, visit Angela Coughlan Pool at 2425 Upper Middle Rd. The city's nine splash pads are also open - and free.
Free parking is available downtown, on the street and in municipal lots - except for the waterfront parking lots on Lakeshore Road. Parking at Lowville Park is free for three-hour time slots, but must be reserved in advance.
