The mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has told Avanti West Coast it is in the last chance saloon" after the resignation of its managing director amid long-running disruption and reductions to its schedule.
On Friday, it was announced that Phil Whittingham would leave his role from 15 September to pursue other executive leadership opportunities".
