'Really aggravates me': Oakville student sitting on camping chair between parents in vehicle, Halton police allege
An Oakville student is facing a Highway Traffic Act charge and significant fine after Halton police allege they were sitting in a camping chair in a vehicle.
The traffic stop came around 10:30 a.m. Monday (Sept. 5) in the area of Bronte Road and the QEW.
Const. Marc Taraso alleges a passenger, a 20-year-old university student, was seated in between his parents in a camping chair in the cargo van and obviously, not buckled up.
"This stop (really) aggravates me," he said in a tweet, later telling Inside Halton "Seatbelts save lives. Plain and simple. The student was sitting on an unsecured camp chair in between the front two seats. In the event of a front impact collision, it would result in the passenger being propelled forward as a result of inertia; and the only thing stopping them would be impact with the windshield; which would result in serious bodily harm or death and potentially ejection from the vehicle."
The student now faces a $240 fine on the charge of passenger failing to occupy position with seatbelt.
The incident created a buzz on social media.
"Just shaking my head," tweeted @stevestweets4.
