Australia has proclaimed the ascension of King Charles III, after a meeting of the federal executive council and a ceremony at Parliament House on Sunday.

The federal executive council is made up of the ministers of government and the governor general, and performs functions similar to that of the privy council in the United Kingdom. The council met in Government House on Sunday, with the prime minister, Anthony Albanese, recommending the ascension to the governor general, David Hurley.
