Hamilton police urge driver in Mountain hit-and-run to turn himself in
A 26-year-old woman remains in hospital in critical condition after a hit-and-run Friday night on Mohawk Road East.
Hamilton police are urging the driver to turn himself in, police said Monday afternoon.
The woman was walking across Mohawk Road East, midblock, close to East 45th Street, when she was hit by an eastbound car around 10:20 p.m. Sept. 9. The driver fled and the victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses described the driver as a white male with facial hair, wearing a baseball cap. The car is described as a grey or silver four-door vehicle, possibly an older-model Honda sedan, that may have damage to its passenger mirror. It was last seen eastbound on Mohawk passing Upper Ottawa Street.
The collision is among a spike in serious and deadly crashes involving pedestrians in Hamilton recently, including 11 pedestrian deaths this year. The collisions have led to an outcry for improved safety on city streets. The most serious crashes in Hamilton are investigated by the collision reconstruction unit.
Anyone with information on the Mohawk Road East crash is asked to call the collision reconstruction unit at 905-546-4753.
