The New York Jets expect doctors to clear quarterback Zach Wilson by next week, head coach Robert Saleh said following the team's 27-12 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Clearing Wilson would put him in position to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4.

Wilson underwent surgery after suffering a meniscus tear and bone bruise during the preseason. Jets head coach Robert Saleh announced Sept. 7 that Wilson would miss at least the first three games of the regular season.

New York opted not to place Wilson on injured reserve, which would've sidelined him until at least Week 5.

The 23-year-old Wilson is looking to bounce back this year after struggling as a rookie in 2021. The former No. 2 pick completed just 55.6% of his passes for nine touchdowns against 11 interceptions in 13 games last season.

Veteran Joe Flacco started the first three games of the 2022 campaign for the Jets.
