Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott won't play in his team's Week 4 clash with the Washington Commanders, but he's hopeful his absence won't continue past that.

"Nah, probably not," Prescott said Monday when asked if he'll play against Washington, according to Lorenzo Reyes of USA Today. "But Week 5 against the (Los Angeles) Rams? That's the one I'm looking at."

Prescott, 29, underwent surgery after sustaining a fracture near his thumb in Dallas' season-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was reportedly given a recovery timetable of four-to-six weeks.

Though the Cowboys have won both games without their starter - thanks in part to backup quarterback Cooper Rush - Prescott is itching to return to action.

"Some people are OK with (sitting out), but I'm not built that way," Prescott said. "It's ... killing me not being out there with my guys. It's so hard, but I also know I got to be patient."

Prescott said he had his single stitch removed at AT&T Stadium before Monday night's 23-13 win over the New York Giants. His hand had no visible signs of swelling, according to Reyes.

Rush, a former undrafted free agent, completed 21 of 31 passes for 215 yards and one touchdown as Dallas rallied to top New York.

The Cowboys trail the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East.
