Report: Knee surgery will delay T.J. Watt's return

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery that is expected to delay his return by at least a week or two, sources told Brooke Pryor and Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Watt reportedly had the procedure to clean up a lingering preseason injury.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year was already sidelined by a torn pectoral muscle. He sustained that injury in Week 1 and was originally expected to miss six weeks.

Pittsburgh is no longer counting on Watt to return before its Week 9 bye, according to Pryor and Schefter.

Watt led the NFL in sacks in each of the last two seasons. The 2017 first-round pick tied the single-season record with 22.5 sacks in 2021.

The Steelers have posted a 0-3 record since Watt went down.
