Report: Brady fined $11K for attempt to kick Jarrett after controversial play

The NFL fined Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady $11,139 on Friday for attempting to kick Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman Grady Jarrett during their Week 5 game, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The incident reportedly happened on the same play Jarrett was called for roughing the passer after a third-down sack late in the fourth quarter. The officials were widely criticized around the NFL for the controversial penalty call, which effectively sealed Tampa Bay's 21-15 victory.

Jarrett was not fined for the hit on Brady, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports.

Fines for kicking are $11,139 for a first offense and $16,444 for a second, according to ESPN.

Brady briefly addressed the play postgame Sunday, saying, "I don't throw the flags." He also appeared to attempt to kick Jarrett earlier in the contest.

The NFL reportedly plans to discuss roughing-the-passer penalties during its league meetings in New York next week. Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones was also called for roughing the passer on a controversial play against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5 on Monday Night Football.

The Bucs and Falcons will face off again in Week 18 in Atlanta.
