Part of the eastbound 401 express is closed in Mississauga after a truck's dump box hit and became wedged under an overpass.

The incident, which caused all eastbound lanes of the 401 express to be closed near Mavis Road resulting in large delays for morning commuters, occurred around 7 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19.

According to OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, the truck involved was driving with its dump box raised after dropping a load at a construction site on the highway near Mississauga Road.

In video from the scene at 8:34 a.m. Schmidt said that portion of the highway he expected the issue will remain for several hours" as crews and engineers work to remove the lodged dump box and inspect the overpass and highway for damage.

Hopefully they will give us the green light to reopen the lanes as soon as this box is removed," he said.

There were also issues with the eastbound 401 collectors in the area, according to 511 Ontario, which reported two left lanes and the shoulder were closed near Mavis due to a collision as of 9:25 a.m. As of 10:04 a.m., the collision was cleared 511 Ontario said.

Schmidt said the driver of the truck involved in the initial incident was not injured.
