UPDATED: Police investigating gunshots fired in a home invasion downtown Hamilton
Police are investigating a home invasion where a man was shot in downtown Hamilton Sunday afternoon.
Hamilton police said in a release they were called to a shooting in the area of George and Caroline streets, one block east of Hess Village, after 1 p.m. Sunday.
Police confirmed several shots were fired inside a residence in what detectives believe was a targeted incident. Officers immediately responded and secured the area, however, no suspects were found.
An 18-year-old man suffered non-life threatening injuries from a gunshot.
This was the second shooting in Hamilton over the weekend. Police confirmed shots were fired in the parking lot of a housing complex around 11 p.m. Saturday night near Purnell Drive on the west Mountain. There were no reported injuries.
There have been at least 30 shootings reported in Hamilton this year.
Police are asking residents in the area of George and Caroline to check security cameras for suspicious activity between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday. Anyone driving through the area with dash camera footage is also asked to contact investigators.
The shooting is being investigated by the division one criminal investigations branch. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 905-546-3816 or the on duty central staff sergeant at 905-546-4725.
