Report: Elliott not expected to play vs. Bears due to knee injury

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is expected to miss Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears due to a knee injury, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The running back is dealing with a hyperextended right knee stemming from a hit in the second quarter of last Sunday's victory over the Detroit Lions, a source told Todd Archer of ESPN.

Elliott said Wednesday that his knee feels "a little stiff" but left the door open to suiting up in Week 8.

"We've still got a lot of time before Sunday," he said. "Right now, I'm focused on getting this knee as healthy as I can."

Dallas has a bye in Week 9, so Elliott would have nearly three weeks to get healthy if he sits out against Chicago. Tony Pollard would lead the Cowboys' backfield in the veteran's likely absence.

Although Elliott has a team-high 443 yards and four touchdowns this season, his average of 4.1 yards per carry ties the second-worst mark of his career.

Pollard, meanwhile, is averaging 5.6 yards per carry in a backup role. He totaled 375 yards and two scores on the ground, including 83 yards against Detroit.
