The Los Angeles Rams turned down multiple trade offers for running back Cam Akers before Tuesday's trade deadline and are working with his agent in hopes he'll play for the team again this season, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The 23-year-old is expected to return to practice Thursday for the Rams, Pelissero adds.

Akers has been inactive for the last two games for personal reasons and was reportedly on the trade block because he "has philosophical and football-related differences with head coach Sean McVay," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

"I would say it's more like we're dealing with things internally," McVay said last month. "This is kind of unchartered territory, and I think the biggest thing is, out of respect for the situation, we want to keep it internally."

The Rams offered two first-round picks and Akers to the Carolina Panthers for defensive end Brian Burns, but the Panthers declined, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Akers has 51 carries for 151 yards and one touchdown this season.
