Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy in a fatal shooting outside a Scarborough high school that left an 18-year-old dead, a 15-year-old boy injured and sent a crowd of students screaming and running.

The shooting, in an Ellesmere Road parking lot of Woburn Collegiate Institute immediately after class on Halloween, led to the death of Jefferson Peter Shardeley Guerrier, 18, of Toronto. The second young victim walked himself to hospital with gunshot wounds, and is in stable condition.

Shardeley was a recent graduate of Lester B. Pearson C.I.

In a news release, police said the 17-year-old suspect turned himself in to police and was arrested on Thursday.

He has been charged with second-degree murder.

He cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Video of the shooting that was shared on social media earlier this week depicts an after-school altercation involving four people that escalated amid screaming students.

As three gunshots ring out, the camera person can be seen racing toward a figure on the ground as others - apparently students - rush to gather around an injured person.

In the aftermath of the fatal school shooting, advocates and the Toronto District School Board have called for urgent" collective action.

The experience of trauma depicted in the disturbing video is a regular occurrence," said Louis March, founder of the Zero Gun Violence Movement.

The kids have become immune to the tragedy that's taking place in front of their own eyes."

Toronto police had previously obtained judicial authorization to identify the wanted 17-year-old suspect, saying he was armed and dangerous. That authorization has expired with his arrest.
