Report: Rams offered two 1st-rounders, 2nd-rounder for Panthers' Burns
The NFL trade deadline almost had another blockbuster deal.
The Los Angeles Rams offered two first-round draft picks and a second-round pick to the Carolina Panthers for pass-rusher Brian Burns, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
However, Carolina reportedly rebuffed the NFC West club's offer.
It was previously reported that the Rams were in on running back Christian McCaffrey, who ultimately went to the San Francisco 49ers.
L.A offered second-, third-, and fifth-round picks along with running back Cam Akers in exchange for the All-Pro, added Schefter.
The 24-year-old Burns, meanwhile, is among the best young pass-rushers in the NFL. He racked up 25.5 sacks in his first three seasons with Carolina and has a team-high five this year.
The Super Bowl champions have been among the bigger disappointments of the season, producing a 3-4 record through Week 8.
With issues on offense and rushing the passer, potential moves for McCaffrey and Burns make sense for the Rams, who made blockbuster trades for the likes of cornerback Jalen Ramsey in recent years.
L.A. ranks 28th in points per game (16.9) and 20th in sacks per game (2.1).
