Weekend planner: An abundance of weekend pursuits around Hamilton
A day of Remembrance events turn into an abundance of weekend pursuits.
Snow flurries are expected Sunday after two days of showers when temperatures dip to -1 C Saturday night.
Here are more than a dozen things to do around Hamilton this weekend.
Remembrance
Hamilton-area Remembrance Day services are Friday: Remembrance Day: A guide to services in the Hamilton area.
- Hamilton Military Museum, 610 York Blvd. Free admission on Friday to acknowledge the struggle of men and women in their work toward the goal of peace.
- On Sunday, a parade of Hamilton and area veterans, garrison units and cadet corps will leave the John Foote V.C. Armouries, 200 James St. N., at 10:15 a.m. proceeding south to Gore Park on King Street East. Outdoor service begins at 10:45 a.m. at Veterans' Place at Gore Park, King Street East. King Street will be closed from Catharine to James streets between 10 and 11:45 a.m. to accommodate the service.
- Hamilton's Playhouse Cinema is showing a new Canadian film, The Ace and The Scout," inspired by Billy Bishop and legendary Anishinaabe sniper Francis "Peggy" Pegahmagabow. Show times are Friday at 7 p.m. and Monday at 2:30 p.m. playhousecinema.ca
- Hamilton's Stories in the Stones: Remembrance Event is Saturday. The walking tour to the Last Monument and service with Pastor Chisholm. Shortened tour for Hamilton veterans. Meet Robin McKee at 11 a.m. in Hamilton Cemetery, 777 York Blvd., for the service and walking tour.
- Waterdown District High School Museum of Hope to mark Remembrance Day is open at the high school before it moves to its new permanent home at the Waterdown legion. The student-run museum is open daily from Nov. 11 to 18 from 12 to 2:30 p.m. and there will also be a night opening Nov. 17 from 12 to 6:30 p.m.
- In the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church cemetery there is a Field of Remembrance" of 38 stark white crosses standing against the crisp fall air commemorating those Ancaster veterans who gave their lives to their country during the First and Second World Wars. The church is located at 31 Sulphur Springs Rd.
Art Crawl

Jurassic Quest
Dinosaurs are taking over the Hamilton Convention Centre by Carmen's this weekend. They chomp, roar and you can even ride them or dig them up. Walk among the dinosaurs Friday to Sunday, open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and closes at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $27.50 per person, timed entry, available at jurassicquest.ca.
There is a $45 unlimited ticket for kids aged two to 10. Includes admission, plus unlimited access to stationary and walking dinosaur rides, fossil dig, and dinosaur-themed inflatable attractions. Note: maximum weight for rides is 140 pounds. Socks must be worn on inflatable attractions.
Hamilton Film Festival

Inc. art market
Hamilton Artists Inc. annual art market is back in person Friday and Saturday. Quirky AF | art fair is a curated pop-up art, craft, and design market that hosts talented and avant-garde makers. Artists Inc. is at the corner of James and Cannon.
Indigenous Market
The Indigenous Market at the Hamilton Public Library, 55 York Blvd., first floor, is open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This weekend features Carole Jones, Giniw Paradis Metis Art & Design and Kahsenniyohstha Designs. hpl.ca
Interactive movie night
If you can't keep quiet at a movie, this is for you. That's So Cinema - Interactive Movie Nights at The Zoetic Company Ltd., 526 Concession St., hit the theatre Saturday at 4 p.m. This Saturday's feature is The Goonies." Tickets are $10 at the door, online visit eventbrite.ca.

Cameron Crozman is performing Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B Minor" at FirstOntario Concert Hall with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $20 to $80. Don't miss the pre-concert talk at 6:30. hpo.org
Theatre Ancaster
Oliver! continues live on stage at Ancaster Memorial Arts Centre, 357 Wilson St. E., until Nov. 26. Stop Bill 23 rally
Environment Hamilton is supporting a pop-up rally organized by Stop Sprawl HamOnt on Sunday at 11 a.m. in the parking lot at Dundurn Castle. Hamiltonians gather in an effort to stop Bill 23, save farmland and wetlands and keep Hamilton's urban boundary.
In Niagara Falls

Twinkle

String quartet finale
Chamber Music Hamilton presents Canada's great Lafayette String Quartet on their farewell tour. It's the final performance in Hamilton after 37 years for the foursome. On Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, they will perform a new piece written for them by Hamilton's own Abigail Richardson-Schulte that they are touring across the country, as well as Mozart and Borodin. Doug Gilmour
NHL legend Doug Gilmour is at Burlington's Mapleview Centre for a meet-and-greet on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the new Sporting Life store.
Game day
