Hamilton police are investigating the suspicious death of a 38-year-old woman found in a Ferguson Avenue North apartment Thursday morning.

The woman's body was found in her apartment unit at 195 Ferguson Ave. N., between Cannon and Barton streets, around 11 a.m. Thursday. The building's superintendent made the discovery while entering the apartment for a scheduled pest control program, said Det. Sgt. Steve Bereziuk of the homicide unit.

Police were immediately concerned by evidence at the scene and the homicide unit was called in. Bereziuk described the apartment as a complicated crime scene."

An autopsy was ongoing Friday afternoon. Detectives are awaiting results before it can be determined whether this is a homicide.

Police believe the woman died overnight Sunday into Monday morning, specifically between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. Monday. Bereziuk said he could not elaborate on why police have narrowed down the time to that specific half-hour.

Hamilton police forensic investigators remain at the apartment Friday collecting evidence.

Police have been canvassing people in the apartment building and may also extend that canvass out into the surrounding area in the coming days.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Kevin Heyink at 905-546-2288.
