Senior dies after small fire at Waterdown home
A 90-year-old man has died of his injuries after being severely burned at a home in Waterdown Thursday.
Emergency services were called to the home on Niska Drive, near Fellowes Crescent, shortly before 11 a.m.. Hamilton paramedics transported the man to hospital with severe burns covering about 80 per cent of his body.
The senior died of his injuries later in hospital, Hamilton police confirmed.
The call began as a medical call but police and Hamilton fire were later called to the scene. The house was filled with smoke, but the fire - described by police as small - was already out.
The fire appears to be accidental, police said.
However, the exact cause and origin remains under investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal.
It is too early to make any determinations as the investigation has just begun," said OFM spokesperson Sean Driscoll.
