Construction worker’s body recovered from flooded chamber in Mississauga.
The body of a missing construction worker was retrieved from an underground chamber after an eight-hour search in Mississauga.
Emergency crews were deployed to Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Drive Friday afternoon.
Peel Regional Police told the Star one of several workers was trapped underground in a water chamber flooded after a pipe burst.
The body of a 54-year-old man was recovered around midnight after firefighters pumped the water out of the chamber.
Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other construction worker was injured.
Water main and sanitary sewer improvements were underway in the vicinity of the incident.
The Ministry of Labour is now investigating.
Roads near the intersection were closed for the rescue but have since been reopened.
