49ers' Samuel expected back in regular season, Purdy day-to-day
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is expected to return at some point during the regular season despite suffering an MCL sprain and an ankle sprain in Sunday's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to Cam Inman of The Mercury News.
The 49ers are also listing rookie quarterback Brock Purdy as day-to-day due to oblique and rib injuries.
Samuel could return as early as the team's Week 17 meeting with the Las Vegas Raiders, a source told Jordan Schultz, theScore's NFL insider.
The wide receiver was carted off the field in the second quarter due to what appeared to be a serious injury. San Francisco initially announced that he injured his knee but later ruled him out for the remainder of the contest with an ankle issue.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said postgame that the All-Pro receiver didn't suffer any fractures and likely sustained a high ankle sprain.
Samuel tops San Francisco with 840 scrimmage yards. The 26-year-old, who's scored five touchdowns in 2022, also led the team in total yards last year.
Purdy didn't miss any snaps versus Tampa Bay. The rookie passer, who was selected with the final pick of the 2022 draft, accounted for three touchdowns on Sunday while making his first NFL start in place of the injured Jimmy Garoppolo.
The 9-4 49ers visit the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday.
