‘Magic’ mushroom store shut down by Hamilton police on second day
Three hours into the second day after a store openly selling magic" mushrooms opened in Hamilton's east end, police shut it down and seized all the drugs.
Police announced on Wednesday that their vice and drug unit had obtained a warrant to close the Mushroom Cabinet at 1459 Main St. E. on Tuesday. The Spectator spoke with the business on Monday about their opening as the first shop to sell psilocybin mushrooms in the city.
Two people were arrested when police went in on Tuesday, and are both charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Hamilton police released a dozen photos of seized mushrooms and other related products.
When The Spectator asked police on Monday about the store, they said they had received a tip through Crime Stoppers and would be investigating.
Psilocybin is illegal under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. Police said if the owner of the property is found to be connected to the business, the property itself could also be subject to seizure.
