‘Terrifying morning’ as Simcoe homeowner tackles man who broke into house

It was a terrifying morning" for a Simcoe family who were victims of a home invasion Thursday morning.

When confronted, the homeowner tackled the suspect and pinned him down until police could arrive, the OPP said.

Around 7:50 a.m., the Norfolk OPP officers responded to a call for the home invasion at a home on Norfolk Street South in Simcoe.

According to a press release, a person broke into the house. Once inside, the owner of the home became involved in a fight with the suspect, holding the person down while family members contacted 911.

When police arrived, they took the suspect into custody without incident. The homeowner who tackled the suspect suffered injuries and was taken to hospital.

On Twitter, OPP described it as a terrifying morning for a family in #Simcoe after the owner of the home tackled a home invasion suspect."

A 36-year-old Norfolk County man was charged with break and enter, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000 and fail to comply with probation order.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe at a later date.
