Hamilton police say a driver has been transported to hospital after a crash on the east Mountain.

In a tweet, police said officers are investigating a single-vehicle collision in the area of Upper Gage Avenue and Rymal Road East Wednesday morning.

According to a tweet from the Hamilton Fire Department, emergency services were called to the area just before 10 a.m.

Hamilton Paramedic Services Supt. Dave Thompson said paramedics transported the driver of the vehicle to hospital without vital signs." Life-saving measures were ongoing on the way.

Thompson could not provide any further information on the driver.

Police initially closed Upper Gage Avenue from Rymal Road East to Sinena Avenue and Rymal Road East from Miles Road to Grayrocks Avenue, but Upper Gage heading north from Rymal has since reopened. Rymal is also open in both directions. Southbound Upper Gage from Rymal is still closed.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area as the investigation is ongoing.
