Man walking around Hamilton Mountain businesses wielding hammers arrested
A Hamilton police officer suffered minor injuries Friday afternoon while detaining an unco-operative and allegedly drunk suspect who refused to drop a pair of hammers he was wielding.
Const. Krista-Lee Ernst said the man was brought to police attention after several residents phoned in to report an intoxicated person walking around businesses on Upper Wentworth Street and Mohawk Road East with a hammer in each hand.
Officers found the man at a bus terminal outside CF Lime Ridge Mall. Ernst said officers unsuccessfully tasered the man after he refused to drop his hammers. The man was quickly restrained and brought to the ground before being arrested, she added.
Ernst said one officer sustained deep cuts to his hand while trying to detain the man. He was treated by paramedics on scene.
Police say charges against the man are pending.
