Woman injured in New Year’s Day restaurant shooting
A woman was injured in the first Hamilton shooting of 2023, hours after midnight.
Police were called to a Jackson Street East restaurant shortly after 5 a.m. on Sunday. Officers found a woman with non-life threatening injuries inside the Sankofa Lounge & Restaurant. Police say she was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.
The 92 Jackson St. E. restaurant shooting is believed to be targeted, police said in a New Year's Day morning release.
The intersection at Jackson Street East and Catherine Street South was closed in all directions as of 9:45 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-546-3818. Investigators are asking residents and businesses in the area to check surveillance camera footage from early Sunday morning
This is the second shooting in this area of downtown since the beginning of December. In early in December, police responded to a shooting one block north at Main Street East and Catharine Street South.
