Driver dead, passenger in hospital after they were ejected in high-speed QEW crash
A 24-year-old Brampton man is dead after a speed-related New Year's Day crash on the Queen Elizabeth Way in Stoney Creek.
Police received reports of a single vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, losing control and rolling over" on the Toronto-bound QEW near Fruitland Road at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, OPP spokesperson Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a tweet.
Schmidt said two occupants were ejected. The driver was pronounced dead on scene, and a 27-year-old passenger was taken to hospital in stable condition. Two other occupants in the car were not injured.
All lanes were closed between Fifty Road and Fruitland Road for several hours Sunday night. They have since been reopened.
Burlington OPP are investigating and ask anyone with information, such as dash-camera footage, to contact police.
Schmidt said this is the OPP's first traffic fatality of the year.
