One person was taken to hospital Saturday night after being rescued from a burning east Hamilton home.

Fire crews responded to 22 Rosedale Ave., between King Street East and Lawrence Road, around 10:55 p.m., for reports of a multiple-alarm structure fire.

Hamilton fire chief Dave Cunliffe said arriving crews were met with flames venting out of shattered windows and heavy smoke on the main floor of the two-storey home.

Upon entry, crews had to rescue an adult male and a dog who were still inside, Cunliffe said. The man was taken to hospital with minor injuries and is expected to recover. The dog was removed from the home unscathed.

Cunliffe said the fire eventually spread to the second floor and caused more than $500,000 in damages before crews left scene around 4 a.m.

The cause of the blaze is yet known and remains under investigation. The Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified.
