Report: Broncos interview David Shaw for head coaching job
The Denver Broncos interviewed former Stanford coach David Shaw about their head coaching vacancy Wednesday, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Shaw stepped down as head coach of Stanford last November after 12 seasons in charge. He's the school's winningest coach but oversaw back-to-back 3-9 campaigns in his final two seasons.
The 50-year-old comes equipped with previous NFL experience, having spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders, and Baltimore Ravens from 1997 to 2005. He began his NFL journey as a quality control coach in Philadelphia but also served as a quarterbacks and wide receivers coach.
The Broncos have actively pursued a head coach since the conclusion of the 2022 season. The biggest names the franchise will reportedly interview include Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and former New Orleans Saints sideline boss Sean Payton.
Denver reportedly also requested to speak with Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, and San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans. Former Detroit Lions coach Jim Caldwell is also reported to be on the team's shortlist.
The Broncos fired former sideline boss Nathaniel Hackett before he could finish his first season after posting a 4-11 record through 15 games.
