The Seattle Seahawks are expected to bring back Geno Smith as their starting quarterback for the 2023 season, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Smith, 32, is slated to be a free agent at the end of the season.

The Seahawks will try to reach a new deal with Smith this offseason and have the franchise tag available, Rapoport adds.

The tag will be worth over $30 million, which is almost double Smith's career earnings of $17 million, according to Spotrac.

Smith signed a one-year, $3.5-million contract with Seattle last April. The Seahawks named him their starting quarterback in August after he beat out Drew Lock for the role in training camp. Seattle traded former starter Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos last offseason.

Smith led the Seahawks to a playoff spot and set a single-season franchise record with 4,282 passing yards. He threw for 30 touchdowns against 11 interceptions as Seattle went 9-8 in the regular season.
