There was a brand-new drum to hold the tickets for the Hagersville Catch the Ace weekly draw on Jan. 19.

With almost 7,000 more tickets sold that night than were sold on Jan. 12, it was clear the new drum arrived just in time.

Last week, we barely fit (the tickets) in," said Dan Matten, one of the organizers of the fundraiser and a member of the Hagersville Lions Club, which is partnering with the Hagersville Rocks committee of the Hagersville Chamber of Commerce to run the fundraiser. These groups get 50 per cent of the ticket sales each week, and will be donating the net profits to the West Haldimand General Hospital, the Hagersville Food Bank and other Hagersville Lions Club community projects.

If we go another three or four weeks, I'm going to get concerned again. If we keep going after that, we will need a cement truck," Matten joked.

There will be at least one more draw in the Hagersville Catch the Ace progressive jackpot. While the weekly prize of $29,080 was presented to a group of four friends who had decided to go in together on their tickets - Jennifer Anderson, Karen McKellar, Harold Waselynchuk and Tammy West - their choice of Envelope 5 revealed the two of diamonds, instead of the elusive ace of spaces.

The next draw will take place on Jan. 26. Tickets are $10 each or three for $20, and will be sold at the Hagersville Legion from 2:30 p.m. to 7:50 p.m., with the draw taking place at 8 p.m. Ticket holders do not have to be present to win; the draw can be watched live on Facebook on the Hagersville Lions Club - New Page.

The Jan. 26 draw has an estimated jackpot of over $209,000.
