The Cincinnati Bengals are targeting this offseason to sign quarterback Joe Burrow to a contract extension, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Cincinnati is expected to exercise the fifth-year option on Burrow's rookie contract before the May 1 deadline, Rapoport adds.

The 26-year-old threw for 4,475 yards and a career-high 35 touchdowns this past season. He also rushed for 247 yards and another five scores en route to earning his first Pro Bowl nod.

Cincinnati's offense dealt with injuries to key players throughout the season, including Ja'Marr Chase, La'el Collins, and Jonah Williams. Despite missing some starters, Burrow led the Bengals to a second consecutive AFC North title.

The LSU product led Cincinnati to a Super Bowl appearance and a 10-6 mark in 2021, his second campaign. Burrow led the league that year with a 70.4% completion rate to go along with 4,611 passing yards and 34 touchdowns.

The Bengals take on the Buffalo Bills in the AFC divisional-round game Sunday.
