Haldimand approves bylaw to help fund Dunnville affordable housing project

Haldimand County is expected to adopt a new capital housing facility bylaw that will help the county contribute toward the Dunnville affordable housing project and allow it to contribute to future social housing projects.

A bylaw is required to allow the county to continue a previous agreement with the Haldimand Norfolk Housing Corporation, which is building the housing development on Ramsey Drive.

The report, presented at the Jan. 17 council-in-committee meeting, confirmed the county's commitment to pay startup costs for the project of around $1.024 million. A further $124,009 in expenses are recommended to come out of the county's social housing reserve. In addition, the county will pay permit and development fees for the project, about $400,000 worth, out of the same reserve account.

Once built, the new facility will be owned by the county but run by the housing corporation.
