Ravens hire Georgia's Monken as offensive coordinator

The Baltimore Ravens are hiring Todd Monken as their new offensive coordinator, the team announced Tuesday.

Monken, 57, has served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Georgia since 2020. He was a key figure in helping the Bulldogs win back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022.

"Todd's leadership and coaching acumen were evident from the beginning," Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said in a statement. "He has a proven track record for designing and teaching offensive systems that allow players to succeed at the highest level. We're excited to get to work and begin building an offense that will help us compete for championships."

Baltimore conducted an extensive search that featured 21 interviews with 14 candidates after the team parted ways with former offensive play-caller Greg Roman in January.

Monken, who has 34 years of coaching experience, returns to the NFL for the first time since serving as the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns in 2019. He occupied the same role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2016-18.

The Ravens averaged 338.8 yards and 20.6 points per contest last season. Monken will be tasked with improving a passing attack that averaged 178.8 yards per contest in 2022.

Potentially complicating that task is the status of star quarterback Lamar Jackson. The 2019 MVP could become a free agent this offseason after playing out the final year of his rookie deal in 2022. Jackson, 26, is likely to be a candidate for a franchise tag that could cost the club $32.4 million next season, according to Over The Cap.

The Bulldogs, meanwhile, announced Mike Bobo as their next offensive coordinator. Bobo previously held the position for Georgia from 2007-14 and recently served as an analayst on staff.
