Report: Cardinals add Petzing as offensive coordinator
The Arizona Cardinals are hiring Cleveland Browns quarterbacks coach Drew Petzing as their offensive coordinator, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The 35-year-old began his coaching career with the Browns as a football operations intern in 2013 before spending 2014-19 with the Minnesota Vikings. Petzing returned to Cleveland in 2020 as the club's tight ends coach before taking over the quarterback room in 2022.
New Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon coached with Petzing in Minnesota from 2014-17.
Cleveland averaged 202.6 passing yards per game this season, with Jacoby Brissett and offseason acquisition Deshaun Watson each spending multiple games as the team's starter. The Browns also had the league's sixth-best ground attack, averaging 146.5 rushing yards per contest.
The Cardinals are looking to rebound from a 4-13 campaign where the offense averaged just 323.5 yards and 20 points per game.
Arizona's season ended with quarterback Kyler Murray on injured reserve due to an ACL tear suffered in Week 14. Murray is unlikely to be ready for Week 1, but the 25-year-old could return later in the campaign.
Gannon and the Cardinals reportedly hired their new defensive coordinator Saturday, poaching Nick Ralis from the Philadelphia Eagles.
